Opel is a German automobile manufacturer and a subsidiary of Stellantis since 2021. It is headquartered in Russelsheim am Main, Hesse, Germany. The company was founded in 1862 by Adam Opel and used to produce sewing machines. From 1886, Adam started selling high-wheels bicycles, known as penny-farthings. The first Opel production patent motor car was built in 1899 and in the early 90s, it reportedly became the first German automaker to incorporate a mass-production assembly line. From 1929 till 2017, Opel was owned by General Motors and from 2017 to 2021 it was under PSA Peugeot Citroen. At present, its portfolio includes SUVs, small cars, sports tourer, electric vehicles, as well as commercial vehicles.
